WASHINGTON, March 13, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Manufacturing Institute selected Christine Roy for the Women in Manufacturing STEP (Science, Technology, Engineering and Production) Award. The STEP Awards honor women who have demonstrated excellence and leadership in their careers and represent all levels of the manufacturing industry, from the factory-floor to the C-suite.
"Production management plays a very important role in our production success," stated Aslam Malik, President, AMPAC Fine Chemicals. "Christine is responsible for the production supervision efforts in the main processing plant of our Rancho Cordova, California facility, which includes 150 operators. Christine works diligently with union representatives and upper management to improve site productivity and addresses her responsibilities to our company and our customers exceptionally well," added Dr. Malik.
The STEP Awards are part of the larger STEP Ahead initiative, launched to examine and promote the role of women in the manufacturing industry through recognition, research, and leadership for attracting, advancing, and retaining strong female talent.
A recent survey from Deloitte and The Manufacturing Institute found that 80 percent of American manufacturing companies have a moderate to severe shortage of available, qualified workers.
On March 26, The Manufacturing Institute will recognize 130 recipients of the STEP Awards at a reception in Washington, D.C. The STEP Awards program will highlight each Honoree's story, including their leadership and accomplishments in manufacturing.
