Welsh Govt.: £100 Million to Help Boost Life Sciences Industry

BIOTECH entrepreneur Sir Chris Evans yesterday hailed the creation of a £100m new fund as a “watershed in Welsh history”. His comments came after Business Minister Edwina Hart said the Welsh Government was to commit £25m to the fund with immediate effect. That will be followed by a £25m commitment in the second year, with the Welsh Government seeking to match-fund both contributions, creating a £100m fund in total. Announcing the creation of the fund at the BioWales 2012 conference in Cardiff Mrs Hart said: “This investment is one of the biggest commitments made by any country into a fund of this type. “It is a very significant commitment given the current economic environment but reflects our confidence in the fact that Wales has significant advantages in life sciences and our determination to push ahead immediately with getting investors in.”
