Vertos Medical Inc. Release: New Study Data Demonstrate Effectiveness of Back Treatment Mild® Over Two Year Period

ALISO VIEJO, Calif., March 4, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The mild® procedure, a minimally-invasive outpatient procedure designed to provide relief to patients suffering with the common back condition lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS), demonstrates durable pain relief and improvement in mobility over a two year period according to new study data. The study monitored 45 patients at 11 sites during a two year period and is currently the longest multi-center study in publication on the mild procedure.

Data from the study showed a statistically significant improvement in pain relief and physical function for patients treated with mild, which is consistent with the positive results published in more than 15 scientific articles. The study was authored by Dr. Bohdan Chopko and published in the Clinical Journal of Pain.

At two years, these study patients reported a statistically significant reduction in pain and an improvement in mobility and physical function.* Patient progress was documented at multiple follow-ups over the two year period and patients reported, “major improvement occurred by 1-week follow-up and showed no difference between each subsequent follow-up, signifying considerable stability and durability of the initial result over time.” No major device or intra-procedural adverse events were reported in the study.

LSS is caused by the compression of the nerves in the spinal canal, which can lead to pain and numbness in the lower back, buttocks, or upper legs as well as reduced mobility. mild alleviates the compression by restoring space in the spinal canal with precision instruments through an incision the size of a baby aspirin. The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis and does not require general anesthesia or stitches.

Multiple studies have confirmed that mild patients are experiencing positive effects with a low risk of major complications. To read patients’ stories and find more information about mild please visit www.mildprocedure.com.

*Pain was measured by the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) and mobility and functionality was measured by the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) and the Zurich Claudication Questionnaire (ZCQ).
