WASHINGTON, March 24 /PRNewswire/ -- A dozen Governors are expected to attend BIO 2006, the world's largest biotechnology convention, in Chicago from April 9th - 12th.
"The number of Governors who attend BIO's annual international conferences demonstrates that states realize the great potential of the biotechnology industry to generate economic development and to improve the quality of life," stated BIO President Jim Greenwood.
Confirmed Governors include Host Governor Rod Blagojevich (IL), Bob Riley (AL), Jeb Bush (FL), Mitch Daniels (IN), Mitt Romney (MA), Jennifer Granholm (MI), Tim Pawlenty (MN), Matt Blunt (MO), Bob Taft (OH), Anibal Acevedo-Vila (PR), and Jim Doyle (WI).
The Governors will participate in various functions at the conference, from press conferences to the ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the opening of the Exhibit Hall.
In addition to promoting biotechnology in their states at their state pavilions, many Governors will host official state receptions on Monday, April 10th. For example, Ohio Governor Bob Taft will mingle with guests at the "Ohio Night at BIO" reception at Joe's BeBop & Jazz Emporium on Navy Pier.
Governor Rod Blagojevich will welcome conference attendees to Illinois at the plenary breakfast on Monday, April 10th. As the Host Governor for BIO 2007 to be held in Boston, Massachusetts, Governor Mitt Romney will address the audience at the plenary breakfast on Tuesday, April 11th.
BIO represents more than 1,100 biotechnology companies, academic institutions, state biotechnology centers and related organizations across the United States and 31 other nations. BIO members are involved in the research and development of healthcare, agricultural, industrial and environmental biotechnology products.
