Thermo Fisher Scientific Presents New Workflow Solutions At LabAutomation 2007

PALM SPRINGS, Calif., Jan. 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. , the world leader in serving science, is showcasing a broad spectrum of laboratory automation capabilities, spanning bench-top solutions to fully integrated platforms, at LabAutomation 2007. These new technologies are designed to further improve workflow efficiency and data reproducibility in two key areas of lab automation and drug discovery research -- cell growth and analysis, and protein crystallization.

"As customers continue to automate their work environment, we are providing them with complete application-based technologies with an emphasis on integrated workflows," said Marc N. Casper, executive vice president of Thermo Fisher Scientific. "Today, we are more capable than ever of improving and optimizing workflows for customers, with automation and robotics solutions resulting from our larger portfolio of technologies and platforms. By combining the latest instrumentation, robotics and software, we can help our customers improve workflow efficiency and maximize data acquisition and management."

At LabAutomation 2007, the company will highlight: - Thermo Scientific Cell Growth and Discovery (CGD) WorkCell(TM): Featuring the Cellomics ArrayScan imager, this automated cell culture solution is the first preconfigured system to offer image analysis technology. It is designed for high-capacity cell growth, supply and in-line image analysis. - Thermo Scientific MaX WorkCell(TM): The MaX WorkCell incorporates best- in-class instrumentation to automate all plate preparation steps, including screen making, drop setting and plate sealing. As part of the Thermo Scientific Rhombix(TM) protein crystallization product series, the MaX WorkCell is the only all-inclusive plate preparation system available to customers today.

On display will be a number of additional technologies from Thermo Fisher Scientific, most notably, the Thermo Scientific Matrix PlateMate automated liquid-handler. This system can be easily integrated into other robotic systems, including the Thermo Scientific CataLyst Express robot.

In addition, Frost & Sullivan has awarded Thermo Fisher Scientific the "2006 Product Line Strategy Award" for its outstanding contribution to the European laboratory automation market.
