Thermo Fisher Scientific Features Capabilities To Advance Future Of Precision Medicine At Festival Of Genomics

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Festival of Genomics 2016 – Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, highlights its scale and depth of capabilities during the Festival of Genomics in Boston, a three-day event that covers the genomics spectrum from the lab to the clinic.

“Changing the Paradigm for the Development of Multiple Biomarker Companion Diagnostic Tests.”

Products featured at the event include the new Axiom Precision Medicine Research Array, Ion Torrent next-generation sequencing technology and Thermo Scientific Nautilus LIMS (laboratory information management system), which is used to manage the rigorous data and analysis requirements for genomics and precision medicine.

The Companion Diagnostics plenary session (June 29 at 11 a.m.), sponsored by Thermo Fisher, will feature Pfizer (Hakan Sakul, executive director and head of diagnostics) and AstraZeneca (Cecilia Schott, head, personalized healthcare, corporate development and ventures) participating in a panel entitled, “A Case for Collaboration for Companion Diagnostics.” Thermo Fisher currently has a long-term development collaboration with Pfizer and Novartis for next-generation sequencing-based companion diagnostics.

Additional sessions include a keynote presentation by Brian Kelly, global director, diagnostic partnering at Thermo Fisher, on “Changing the Paradigm for the Development of Multiple Biomarker Companion Diagnostic Tests.” He will discuss the advantages of applying NGS technology to develop future companion diagnostics in the era of targeted therapy and precision genomics.

“Our customers are at the forefront of using genetic analysis technologies to advance progress in precision medicine,” said Jim Godsey, vice president of research and development for clinical next generation sequencing at Thermo Fisher. “Through our new products and established collaborations, we are helping customers accelerate their innovation in areas such as clinical research in cancer. The Festival is an opportunity to bring together our advanced genomics technologies and software solutions to provide complete workflows for our customers.”

Additional Thermo Fisher highlights include:

  • The new Axiom Precision Medicine Research Array, a next-generation solution for large-scale genomic studies, covering more populations than any competing technology in a cost-effective solution for discovering human disease genes and drug-response biomarkers or for population genetics.
  • Thermo Scientific Nautilus LIMS, a proven software solution built to support genomics and precision medicine that tightly integrates with internal applications and lab instrumentation as well as external partners and research collaborators. Nautilus is an end-to-end laboratory workflow and data management solution that enables increased automation, high-throughput screening and sophisticated sample and study management to help bridge the gap from bench to bedside.
  • Ion Torrent technology, which powers the Ion S5 and Ion S5 XL next-generation sequencing (NGS) systems. These are cost-effective and flexible platforms that combine the ability to rapidly sequence gene panels and small genomes as well as exomes, transcriptomes and custom assays. The platforms are designed with plug-and-play, cartridge-based reagents to make setting up and operating the sequencers simple and efficient.

Attendees can learn about Thermo Fisher’s advanced genomics portfolio at booth #572, June 27-29 at the Boston Convention Center or by visiting http://www.festivalofgenomicsboston.com.

All products are for research use only; not for use in diagnostic procedures.
