That the Theranos technology is suspected to be less than a perfectly operating one is well known. That such a fun debacle is leading to calls for more regulation is obviously to be expected. And yet the correct answer is that the whole story shows us why we want less regulation not more. Less regulation across all sectors of the economy that is, not just tech or medical care or whatever is causing bonnets to buzz with bees today. For this is what this whole capitalist/free market system is actually good at. Sorting through the possibilities in the newly available technological space and seeing which work and which don’t.
