The PSA blood test widely used to detect prostate cancer can also predict who is most likely to die from the disease, researchers said on Wednesday. The study, in this week’s New England Journal of Medicine, added to evidence that the rate of increase in prostate-specific antigen level may be more important for predicting cancer than the actual PSA number.
