READING, Pa., Feb. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Surgical Specialties Corporation, manufacturers of the Contour Threads(TM) barbed sutures, announced the launch of Articulus(TM) CT400 - the first knotless fixated barbed suture that combines two unidirectional threads to elevate and fixate sagging facial tissue. The Articulus series will debut at the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) annual meeting, March 3-7, 2006 in San Francisco (Booth # 3541).
The new design is being heralded as the next generation of barbed suture technology designed to reduce procedural time, increase suture-to-tissue holding strength and enhance efficiencies of the Contour ThreadLift (R) procedures in the midface and brow.
"The Articulus series eliminates the need for knot tying and allows for deployment of two Contour Threads(TM) through a single puncture entry site, simplifying the Contour ThreadLift procedure," said Cheryl Wozniak, Contour Threads Product Manager at Surgical Specialties Corporation. "We're confident physicians will value the time-saving benefits, enhanced patient comfort and overall ease-of-use with the new thread design."
Contour Threads are the only barbed sutures with FDA-clearance for the fixation and elevation of tissue in the brow, mid-face and neck area. The Articulus series is inspired by the Latin word for "small joint," referencing the ability to "join together" two threads to make one. Ms. Wozniak noted most physicians will likely use the Articulus in the skin envelope and continue to use the uni-directional CT200 or CT210 series of Contour Threads as a complement to Articulus or for adjunctive procedures.
Dr. Greg Ruff, the North Carolina plastic surgeon who patented barbed suture technology, will speak about the Articulus CT400 and other advances in Contour ThreadLifts during the "Advanced Cosmetic Surgery" course (CRS 119) at the AAD meeting, Monday, March 6th at 4:10 pm. The course will be moderated by Boston-based dermatologist and Contour Threads instructor Dr. Michael Kaminer. Dr. Ruff will discuss history of barbed suture technology, current clinical insights and future trends.
