Study To Probe Genetics Of Depression; Finding Genes Linked To Mental Illness May Yield New Drugs

A massive project to probe the genetics of depression was launched this week at the Human Genome Meeting in Berlin, Germany. The multinational study aims to aid the development of the novel drugs against the condition."Antidepressant drugs haven’t changed much for the past 30 years,” says the project’s leader, Bill Deakin of the University of Manchester, UK. “We have to find new molecules that are involved in depression so that new treatments can be developed.”
