Stryker’s Joint Replacement Division announced the second winner of its “Get on the Bus” contests
MAHWAH, N.J., July 17, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Stryker’s Joint Replacement Division announced the second winner of its “Get on the Bus” contests - aimed at encouraging people living with joint pain to see a healthcare professional to learn about treatment options and take the first steps to a healthier lifestyle. Stryker teamed up with longstanding athlete ambassador and current PGA TOUR Champions Golfer, Fred Funk, to welcome the second contest winner on board Stryker’s custom bus.
The winner, Carol Simpson, is a Jacksonville local who is finally ready to address the joint pain that has been plaguing her for years. Funk and Simpson will spend their day driving around Jacksonville on Stryker’s bus, and make a trip to Simpson’s doctor so that she can discuss ways to prioritize her joint health. Similar to Funk, Simpson enjoys volunteering for charities and important causes, so they’ll finalize the day giving back to the Jacksonville community.
“In 2008 I was experiencing such tremendous right knee pain that I couldn’t do the things I enjoy, like walking my dog and keeping up with my kids, without the discomfort,” said Fred Funk. “Eventually, my wife convinced me to go to the doctor to talk about my options for managing my joint pain. After consulting with my doctor, I decided to have my knee replaced - which turned out to be best decision for me. I wouldn’t have made the decision so confidently without encouragement from my wife. That’s why I understand how important it is to give people that extra push to seek help.”
The “Get on the Bus” contests were launched earlier this year, rallying people to share why they or their loved ones may need some extra encouragement to go to the doctor to learn about joint health. The first winner of the contests, Pittsburgh local, Chris Crytzer, was announced on June 12. Stryker Ambassador, Jerome Bettis, spent the day with Chris who visited her doctor and is now setting up a game plan that works best for her joint pain. The last “Get On The Bus” contest continues to run in the Northern NJ area and the winner of that contest will be invited to get on board the bus with both of Stryker’s athlete ambassadors, Funk and Bettis.
