Smith & Nephew Inc. Yanks Some Hip Components From Market

LONDON--Smith & Nephew PLC (SN.LN) Thursday recalled a hip replacement component after reviewing performance data, but said the move won't have an impact on full year sales as the products being removed accounted for just 0.1% of company sales in 2014.

"Smith & Nephew...announces the voluntary removal from the market of 46 mm diameter and smaller femoral heads and corresponding acetabular cup components for the Birmingham Hip Resurfacing System, and new Instructions for Use, reflecting recent performance data," the company said.

"Smith & Nephew is not advising proactive revisions for existing patients unless required for clinical reasons," it added.
