SeqWright Announces Personal Genomics Service

HOUSTON, Jan. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- SeqWright Inc., an international leader in the field of contract genomics, announced today that it will begin offering a personal genotyping service to the public. The service, named SeqWright GPS: GENOMIC PROFILING SERVICE (http://www.seqwright.com/gps ) will be based on data generated from cutting edge microarray technology which will genotype nearly one million minute genetic variations, known as Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNP). The same technology will eventually be used to give customers a profile of their unique DNA copy number variations. Customers will submit a saliva sample from which their DNA will be isolated and analyzed on a SNP-detecting microarray. The SNP results will be used to provide customers a personal genomic database. This information may be used by the customer to infer the risk of developing specific diseases, relatedness to various world populations and ethnic groups, and genetic traits they share with participating family members.

There is a growing body of knowledge relating both SNP and DNA copy number variation with many common diseases. SeqWright plans to empower customers to use their unique genetic profiles by providing them with tools which can compare their SNP genotype results to the most well-established common disease associations. Furthermore, SeqWright will provide customers with updated research information as new disease and health-trait associations are brought to light.

SeqWright’s personal genomics service will compare the customer’s genetic markers to European, East Asian and West African populations. By doing so, the company will be able to provide customers with a measure of relatedness to the major populations with whom they share ancestry. SeqWright will provide an option for adults in families to be tested so that a “molecular genealogy” can be inferred for interesting health and physical traits. SeqWright will compare genetic markers between consenting family members to reveal how genetic traits were inherited in the family.

SeqWright’s CEO, Fei Lu M.D. had this to say about the new service, “SeqWright GPS will provide individuals with the ability to apply cutting-edge research to their personal genetic information in the hopes of helping them live longer, healthier, more productive lives. SeqWright is proud to be a part of the personal genomics revolution as we believe it will ultimately have a profound impact on personal health planning throughout the world.”

SeqWright recognizes that the privacy of individual’s genetic data is an important concern and therefore SeqWright will ensure that the only access to the data is that granted by the customer. Furthermore, SeqWright will conduct all genetic testing in its GLP compliant, CLIA certified facility with stringent quality controls and powerful data security.
