Free webinar provides solutions to bridge the gap between underrepresented communities and clinical research

WHAT: Rho, a full-service contract research organization (CRO) that helps pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies bring their products to market through high-quality clinical research services, will highlight tips for increasing under-represented communities’ awareness and access to clinical trials in an upcoming webinar, “Improving Diversity in Clinical Research.” The webinar will take place on Wednesday, November 6 from 1-2 p.m. EST.

Yael Symes, PhD, integrated product development associate and Jack Modell, MD, vice president and senior medical officer will present the webinar, which will underscore why diversity in clinical research is important. Racial and ethnic minorities are under-represented in many clinical trials because of less awareness of and access to clinical trials; a lack of direct recruitment due to provider bias; financial, transportation, and childcare burdens; language barriers; and misunderstandings about clinical research. This webinar will explain why diversity in clinical trials is important for ethical, scientific and financial reasons and will provide sponsors and CROs with effective ideas to increase diversity in their clinical trials.

WHO: Dr. Yael Symes has over 10 years of experience in writing and editing scientific documents, including 9 publications in peer-reviewed journals. She has participated in the authoring and preparation of clinical protocols, modules of NDAs and INDs, clinical study reports, and other regulatory documents. Her therapeutic area experience includes ophthalmology, infectious diseases, respiratory diseases, and oncology. Her background in public health focuses on patient advocacy, cancer survivorship, and social determinants of health.

Dr. Jack Modell is a board-certified psychiatrist with over 35 years of experience in clinical research, including 20 years in academia teaching, providing patient care, and conducting clinical trials, as well as 18 additional years of experience in clinical drug development, medical affairs, successful NDA filings, medical governance, drug safety, compliance, and management within the pharmaceutical and CRO industries. Dr. Modell’s specialties and expertise include neuroscience, pharmacology, drug development, clinical research, medical governance, and clinical diagnosis and treatment.
