The Australian -- THE World Health Organisation’s emergency committee is expected to decide as early as today whether to issue a pandemic alert, warning nations to prepare for a worldwide outbreak of the new swine flu. Already scientists with the US Centres for Disease Control in Atlanta, Georgia, have cracked the genetic code of the virus, which is spreading worldwide at an alarming rate. Experts fear the new strain of H1N1 swine flu -- which first emerged in Mexico last month and has appeared in the US, Canada, Spain and possibly New Zealand and France -- has developed the ability to spread from person to person.
