ATLANTA, Aug. 12, 2013 /PRNewswire/ Siddhartha Mukherjee, MD, PhD will be the General Session Keynote Speaker of the 2013 Elekta Oncology Users Meeting (EOUM) in Atlanta on Saturday, September 21 at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis. The event convenes prior to the American Society for Radiation Oncology’s (ASTRO) 55th Annual Meeting. Dr. Mukherjee, leading cancer physician, researcher and author of The Emperor of All Maladies: A Biography of Cancer, will present the natural history of this shape-shifting and formidable disease that has plagued humanity for thousands of years.
According to figures from the World Health Organization, cancer cases have doubled globally between 1975 and 2000, and will double again by 2020, nearly tripling by 2030. In America, one in two men and one in three women will get cancer during their lifetime; one in four will die.
“We’re honored that Dr. Mukherjee will speak at the EOUM,” says Jay Hoey, Executive Vice President, Elekta North America. “The message in his presentation and in The Emperor of All Maladies could not be more timely, and we think this story will be informational and even uplifting despite the bleak statistics and projections we’re seeing about cancer today.”
Dr. Mukherjee is an assistant professor of medicine at Columbia University and a cancer physician at the CU/NYU Presbyterian Hospital.
In its 22nd year, the EOUM curriculum offers more than 60 comprehensive sessions covering the scope of Elekta’s product offerings. The sessions are taught by Elekta’s faculty of industry experts and internal specialists. To register, visit www.elekta.com/EOUM2013.
Arrangements for Dr. Mukherjee’s appearance were made through Simon & Schuster Speakers Bureau, New York, NY.
