It’s Time to Seriously Consider an RFID Program
Learn how radio frequency identification (RFID) can solve a broad range of equipment issues in hospitals. Tom Hamelin, former Associate Administrator from UC San Diego Medical Center, will explain how the medical center initially reduced its rental costs for mobile medical equipment and improved its equipment processes by implementing a campus-wide active RFID real-time location system (RTLS).
An accomplished administrator with more than 25 years of experience managing complex hospital-based departments, Tom Hamelin recently served as Associate Administrator, Perioperative Services, Radiology, Trauma and Burn Center at UCSD Medical Center. It was in this role that Hamelin led the search for an RTLS system. Prior to joining UCSD he held director positions at Boston Medical Center, UMASS Medical Center and Tenet. Hamelin holds a BS, BSN, MSN and an MBA. In May 2010, Tom Hamelin accepted a position as Senior Vice President of Business Process Improvement at Awarepoint. After years of innovating with RTLS at UCSD Medical Center, Hamelin determined he could better impact the healthcare cost containment and quality of care initiatives he is so passionate about through an industry role. At Awarepoint, Hamelin focuses exclusively in these areas, and works to expand the degree to which real-time location solution can benefit the entire healthcare value equation - Quality of Care x Revenue/Cost Risk.
