PRA International, Inc. Introduces Flex DMS Hybrid Data Management System

RESTON, Va., June 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- PRA International , a leading global clinical research organization, this week introduced Flex DMS(TM), an advanced data management system for clinical studies that combines electronic data capture and paper data entry in one easy-to-use system. The new technology was on display at the Drug Information Association's (DIA) annual meeting this week in Philadelphia.

"While EDC is rapidly gaining acceptance among the medical investigator community, there is still a need to manage paper reporting in as an efficient manner as possible, which led us to Flex DMS," said Greg Johnson, Vice President, Data Management at PRA. "We started with best-of-breed technology from DataLabs Clinical(TM) and integrated it with PRA's quality and process management systems to ensure maximum speed, efficiency and accuracy."

Available on a limited basis until now, PRA's Flex DMS was honored this week as a recipient of Microsoft's Pharmaceutical and Life Science Technology Innovation Award in the Clinical Development category. Currently, approximately 20 studies are in various stages of development within Flex DMS.

"DataLabs congratulates PRA International for winning this prestigious award from Microsoft," said Jim Langford, President of DataLabs. "PRA has been a visionary leader in providing added value to their clients by integrating new technology, like the hybrid capabilities of DataLabs Clinical, into their existing processes and systems. We are proud that our products could be the basis of the advanced functionality and value that Flex DMS provides."

While Flex DMS is a new platform, PRA's data management group has extensive experience in EDC having completed 52 projects involving 22,000 patients on a variety of software since 2000. The company operates on a common technology platform at all of its data management centers, located in: Lenexa, Kansas; Victoria, British Columbia; and Swansea, Wales. A fourth facility in Pune, India, is scheduled to be fully operational in the fourth quarter.

"In trials where EDC is used exclusively, traditional study timelines can often be cut in half, if not more," said Johnson. "With Flex DMS we are capturing some of that efficiency even with studies that mix EDC and PDE, enabling us to deliver more timely and accurate results to sponsors. In the near future, we will provide clients with real time access study data as well."
