Pfizer recently released about a fifth of its remaining local workforce, following a second recall of the drug Levoxyl. About 25 full-time workers at the company’s Fifth Street facility were released in early May, company spokeswoman Joan Campion said Monday. Levoxyl is used to treat hyperthyroidism and is manufactured at the former King Pharmaceuticals site. “This is in response to a loss of manufacturing,” Campion said. “There was a recent recall of Levoxyl — which represents a significant portion of the work at the Bristol facility — and production won’t start up again until 2014.” The layoffs aren’t good news for the region, City Manager Jeff Broughton said.
