Pain Management Expert Dr. Chamberlain Named New Medical Director For Harmony Home Health & Hospice

SALT LAKE CITY, Sept. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Harmony Home Health and Hospice today announced it has enhanced its hospice and palliative care services with the addition of Bruce H. Chamberlain, MD as its full-time medical director. With Harmony’s growth in Utah, Albuquerque, N.M., Phoenix, and Las Vegas, Dr. Chamberlain has quickly embraced a multitude of duties in medical leadership, clinical expertise, staff training, and administrative oversight to enhance the already high standard of Harmony’s medical services.

As Harmony’s medical director, Dr. Chamberlain will be involved in day-to-day patient care by making personal, bedside visits in patients’ homes and other care facilities. Dr. Chamberlain’s main assignment is to work with Harmony’s nursing staff to advance the quality of patient pain and symptom assessment and management using a variety of tests, evaluations, and therapies.

Board certified in hospice and palliative care and a Fellow of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, Dr. Chamberlain is known for his pain and symptom management, palliative care expertise, and teaching, which he garnered from his more than 24 years of education and practice.

“Harmony sought a medical director that is not just a licensed physician, but an experienced specialist with demonstrated knowledge and expertise in the medical practice and philosophy of hospice and palliative care. We found that ideal candidate in Dr. Chamberlain,” said Dennis Stong, owner and founder of Harmony Home Health and Hospice.

“Because of his experience Dr. Chamberlain will work collaboratively with Harmony management and medical personnel to further our mission of providing the most comprehensive physical, emotional and spiritual services and support that our communities need in home health and hospice care.”

Dr. Chamberlain will immediately work to confirm the diagnosis and prognosis for each patient currently under Harmony’s care, as well as each newly admitted patient. He will serve as a consultant expert to collaborate with each patient’s primary physician and Harmony’s medical and administrative staff on not only pain and palliative care, but overall care plans, including symptom management, new treatment modalities, patient psychosocial needs, end-of-life decision making, emergency procedures, medical ethics, and Medicare hospice regulations.

Prior to joining Harmony, Dr. Chamberlain’s hospice and palliative care experience expanded at VistaCare as he served as chief medical officer after working as a regional and site medical director. He began his training at Brigham Young University, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in zoology, magna cum laude. Dr. Chamberlain then graduated from Johns Hopkins Medical School and completed both his internship and residency in internal medicine at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

For 11 years, Chamberlain served as an officer in the U.S. Army Medical Corp. While at Fort Benning in Georgia, he was on the internal medicine staff and was the director of the intensive care unit at Martin Army Community Hospital.

After living in Orem, Utah for the past 10 years, Dr. Chamberlain has become known in the area’s medical community as a master trainer, skilled practitioner and expert medical resource. During this time and in addition to his work at VistaCare, he has practiced clinical internal medicine at the Central Utah Medical Clinic; and has been a medical director for Horizon Home Health Agency.

Among his many professional affiliations, Dr. Chamberlain is a member of the American Geriatrics Society, National Hospice and Palliative Organization, National Council of Hospice & Palliative Professionals, and the American Pain Society.
