Owens & Minor Earns No. 4 Ranking On The Gartner 2015 Healthcare Supply Chain Top 25

Owens & Minor achieves top 5 ranking for 7th consecutive year

RICHMOND, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--For the seventh consecutive year, Owens & Minor, Inc. (NYSE:OMI), a leading international healthcare logistics company, was ranked among the top five healthcare companies on Gartner’s 2015 Healthcare Supply Chain Top 25. According to Gartner, Inc., the 2015 list recognizes healthcare manufacturers, providers, and distributors that “demonstrate leadership in improving patient care and lowering costs.”

“demonstrate leadership in improving patient care and lowering costs.”

“The Healthcare Supply Chain Top 25 for 2015 reflects the progress leaders have made in laying the foundation for future success,” said Eric O’Daffer, research vice president at Gartner. “Supply chain leaders are educating their teams, trading partners, and company leadership on the value of supply chain to improve service, lower costs, and enable growth and sustainable profits.”

In ranking Owens & Minor fourth on this year’s list, Gartner cited the company’s strategic vision of “connecting the world of medical products to the point of care,” saying that it “exemplified an interconnected and interdependent healthcare value chain.” Owens & Minor earned a total composite score of 6.87 in this year’s Gartner rankings, reflecting strength in quantitative measures and opinion.

“Achieving a top five ranking on the Gartner Healthcare Supply Chain Top 25 list for the seventh consecutive year is evidence that Owens & Minor is translating the value of supply chain excellence to its customers and business partners,” said Owens & Minor President & Chief Executive Officer P. Cody Phipps. “We know that our approach to healthcare logistics enables our manufacturer and provider customers to leverage supply chain innovation to improve patient outcomes.” A number of Owens & Minor’s provider and manufacturer customers also made this year’s Top 25. “We congratulate our fellow winners, who have demonstrated a commitment to supply chain excellence,” said Phipps.

Noting that “alignment to patient outcomes, company strategy, and future revenue models in healthcare” were the dominant themes for the companies that made the 2015 ranking, Gartner’s O’Daffer said, “We see innovation coming from mature supply chains that have stable organizations and strong talent. These organizations are most ready to successfully lead in consolidation and collaboration initiatives that will advance the healthcare value chain.”

Consistent with Gartner’s Top 25 research methodologies, the Healthcare Supply Chain Top 25 ranking is derived from two main areas: quantitative measures and opinion. According to Gartner, quantitative measures provide a view into past financial performance, and they also “establish proxy connections between financial health, performance, and supply chain excellence.” The opinion component provides a view of value chain leadership and demonstrated supply chain performance, which are considered to be crucial characteristics of Gartner’s Top 25 ranking. These two components are combined into a total composite score.
