OrthoAccel Technologies, Inc. Announces Publication Of Randomized Controlled Trial Results

HOUSTON, Sept. 9, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Seminars in Orthodontics has published results from a groundbreaking randomized controlled trial (RCT) demonstrating that pulsatile forces, as used in AcceleDent®, significantly accelerate tooth movement. Currently available online with a September print version scheduled, this prospective, double-blind, randomized, sham-controlled trial demonstrates that gentle, non-invasive vibration increases the rate of tooth movement when applied as an adjunct to orthodontic treatment.

Now available in more than 2,700 orthodontic locations in the U.S. and Canada, OrthoAccel's AcceleDent is an FDA-cleared, Class II medical device that speeds up orthodontic treatment by as much as 50 percent.

The trial, which was conducted at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, assessed 45 orthodontic patients who were randomized into two groups the AcceleDent group and a control group. Patients in the AcceleDent group were given the hands-free device that employs patented SoftPulse Technology® and were instructed to bite down on the device’s mouthpiece for 20 minutes a day. AcceleDent delivered the safe, gentle vibrations needed to stimulate tooth movement at the cellular level. Results indicated that the rate of movement was significantly higher for the AcceleDent group versus the control group.

“The data published in Seminars in Orthodontics represents an important advancement in orthodontic treatment,” said Dr. Dubravko Pavlin. “Based on the outcome of this study, accelerated orthodontic treatment with pulsatile forces holds promise for patients seeking faster treatment time without compromising safety.”

An FDA-cleared, Class II medical device, AcceleDent speeds up orthodontic treatment by as much as 50 percent and orthodontists as well as patients report that AcceleDent relieves the discomfort often associated with orthodontics. AcceleDent is currently available in more than 2,700 orthodontic locations in the U.S. and Canada.

“This landmark trial reinforces feedback that OrthoAccel has received from countless patients and orthodontists AcceleDent is the fast, safe and gentle solution to accelerating orthodontic treatment,” said Michael K. Lowe, president and CEO of OrthoAccel. “With the release of the recent trial results and the continued support of active clinical studies via the company’s Investigator Initiated Research Program, OrthoAccel is committed to evidence-based research on accelerated orthodontics.”

The results of this RCT have been applauded by distinguished clinical researchers and scientists. Dr. Dawei Liu, the director of Marquette University’s orthodontic program, underscored the importance of published clinical findings supporting pulsatile forces for accelerated orthodontics.

“AcceleDent’s clinical results and case studies shared by renowned orthodontists are encouraging,” said Liu, whose research focuses on shortening orthodontic treatment times and reducing the risk of root resorption. “The significant results from this well-designed trial add to the growing body of evidence on the clinical efficacy of AcceleDent from the scientific and academic communities.”

Pavlin will detail the findings of the study results in a webinar on Sept. 25, 2015 hosted by OrthoAccelLearning.com. Titled “Accelerated Orthodontics with Pulsatile Forces: Where’s the Evidence?”, Pavlin will discuss the progression of published research that evaluates and substantiates claims of faster tooth movement with pulsatile forces. He will also highlight the claims and reported benefits of patient comfort, treatment efficiency and friction.

Registration is now open for the webinar. Participants who complete the complimentary webinar and the subsequent exam will receive one CE credit accredited by the American Dental Association Continuing Education Recognition Program.
