TEL AVIV, Israel--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Israeli chief scientist office, at the ministry of finance, continues to expand its support of Israel's life science industry. Figures reported by the Chief Scientist office towards the "ILSI Biomed Israel 2007" Week, which will be held in Tel Aviv early next month, show that in the last six months (November 2006 to May 2007), the Chief Scientist office earmarked NIS 402.7 million in budgets for the life science industry. When broken down into industry segments, pharmaceuticals received NIS 148.8 million, biotechnology NIS 133.1 million and medical devices NIS 120.8 million. In all, the Chief Scientist handled applications from 58 companies for support in 114 specific projects. Of the NIS 402.7 million given to the life science industry, research and development budgets accounted for NIS 164.9.
