Olive Oil Linked to Lower Stroke Risk, University of Bordeaux Study

French medical researchers say consuming olive oil may help prevent strokes in older people. “Stroke is so common in older people and olive oil would be an inexpensive and easy way to help prevent it,” lead author Cecilia Samieri said in a statement. She is with the University of Bordeaux and the National Institute of Health and Medical Research. Samieri and her colleagues studied the medical records of 7,625 people ages 65 and over. The participants had no history of stroke. Olive oil consumption was categorized as “no use,” “moderate use,” and “intensive use.” After a little more than five years, 148 participants had strokes.
