NOVARUM TO EXPLORE SMARTPHONE TECHNOLOGY’S ROLE IN ANTIBIOTIC STEWARDSHIP AT UK DIAGNOSTICS SUMMIT

The one-day summit will bring together over 150 diagnostic specialists in academia and industry, which includes end-users within the pharmaceutical and healthcare profession.

NovarumTM DX will explore how smartphone-enabled point of care testing can offer a new approach towards moderating antibiotic prescriptions, as part of the anti-microbial resistance (AMR) discussion, at the UK Diagnostic Summit in London next week.

The one-day summit, held on 8th November, will bring together over 150 diagnostic specialists in academia and industry, which includes end-users within the pharmaceutical and healthcare profession.

During the summit, Novarum Founder and BBI Group Head of Mobile, Dr Neil Polwart will discuss how smartphone-enabled point of care testing is revolutionising approaches to diagnosis and treatment with infectious and autoimmune disease outside of a traditional clinical lab setting. Dr Polwart, will also explain how smartphone connectivity and functionality could be harnessed to support antibiotic stewardship.

Dr Polwart said: “As the NHS celebrates its 70th anniversary, we’re able to reflect on healthcare and explore the future of the point of care diagnostics in alleviating healthcare institutions burdened with time and resource constraints.

“It’s fantastic to have the opportunity to join colleagues and peers from the public and private sector at the UK Diagnostic Summit and explore the technological advances our generation is making towards tackling anti-microbial resistance - one of the most significant challenges in modern medicine.”

Novarum’s image-capture technology transforms a smartphone into a diagnostic reader when using the mobile’s camera to accurately scan the results of point of care tests. The company, which was acquired by BBI Solutions in 2016, was recently granted a European patent for its revolutionary technology, having secured the equivalent patent for its technology in the United States earlier this year.
