Novartis has given notice to 183 workers that their jobs will be eliminated effective tomorrow, according to documents filed with the state Department of Labor. The job cuts are part of the pharmaceutical company’s effort to reorganize its clinical development division, which was originally announced in October. The Swiss company, which has its U.S. headquarters in East Hanover, will transfer its clinical development work — part of the process of making new medicines — to external sources, according to the documents. In New Jersey, 38 positions are expected to be cut.
