Noted Life Sciences Lawyer Hemmie Chang Joins Foley Hoag

(Boston, MA, January 5, 2011) – The life sciences practice at Foley Hoag LLP opens 2011 with the arrival of noted life sciences lawyer Hemmie Chang, who joins the firm this week from Ropes & Gray.

Ms. Chang represents both large pharmaceutical companies and emerging companies in connection with mergers and acquisitions, licensing transactions and financing matters. Ms. Chang joins a strong life sciences group at Foley Hoag including lawyers from the firm’s intellectual property, corporate, government strategies and litigation areas.

“Foley Hoag has long been a leader in the life sciences industry and is committed to serving both its established and emerging clients effectively and efficiently,” said Ms. Chang. “Lawyers at Foley Hoag have deep roots in the industry, strong connections to leading organizations, and ties to important sources of funding, centers of research and innovation, and government. The firm’s nimble approach to serving its clients attracted me and I am excited to have this opportunity to help expand Foley Hoag’s life sciences practice.”

“Our life sciences practice has enjoyed tremendous growth and success in 2010 on many fronts, including additions to our corporate and government strategies areas. We are eager to build on that momentum and look forward to Hemmie’s arrival to start the new year,” said Jeffrey L. Quillen, Co-Chair of Foley Hoag’s Life Sciences Practice and a transactional lawyer. “With transaction activity in the life sciences industry increasing, Hemmie will be a terrific complement to our team.”

Ms. Chang is a frequent speaker on topics in the life sciences industry, presenting at BIO 2010 on the topic of “How to Acquire New Products and Technologies: What’s New/What’s Not”. She also serves in an advisory capacity to several diversity-related service providers and initiatives, including the South Cove Nursing Home, Franklin Square House Foundation and the Asian Task Force Against Domestic Violence.
