In 2012 BioGaia initiated a double-blind, placebo-controlled study to investigate the effects of Lactobacillus reuteri Protectis on blood glucose in type 2 diabetics. Despite positive results from an earlier pilot study no significant differences between the groups were seen in this study. Forty-five patients with type 2 diabetes were included in the 12-week long study. The analysis of the results will continue to capitalise on as much knowledge as possible.
