New Meningococcal Vaccine Recs Implemented, Study Published in Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report

MedPageToday -- A new recommendation for adolescents to receive a meningococcal vaccine booster at age 16 became official this week. On Oct. 27, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) voted to add the booster -- following an initial dose at age 11 or 12 -- after evaluating evidence from case-control and serologic studies indicating that protection from the vaccine wanes within five years.
