An anti-inflammatory gel may help relieve knee osteoarthritis without the side effects of pills.Anti-inflammatory drugs are used to relieve pain and joint swelling from knee osteoarthritis. But pill forms carry side effects such as stomach ulcers as well as the risk of damage to the kidneys. In their study, which appears in the Oct. 11 Archives of Internal Medicine, researchers found an anti-inflammatory gel applied to the skin was effective in improving the symptoms of knee osteoarthritis with fewer of these side effects.
