Miami, Florida (PRWEB) June 25, 2013 -- The ability to “hold your liquor” may cause you a serious alcohol dependency later on in life, according to an article by Everyday Health(1/22). Researchers from Arizona State University and Yale University found that drinkers who did not seem to suffer from the short term effects of drinking such as feeling inebriated or experience a hangover the next morning were more likely to face longer term health issues as their tolerance to increased drinking develops.
The results appeared in the March issue of Alcoholism: Clinical & Experimental Research and serve to highlight how frequent alcohol consumption can become an addiction later on in one’s life. Those who feel they are experiencing an alcohol dependency should seek qualified medical help including contacting a detox center such as Harbor Village.
At Harbor Village, a premier drug and alcohol and detox facility located in beautiful Miami, Florida, clients can check in anonymously and receive treatment usually lasting from 3-7 days. A trained staff develops an effective, results proven course of action, tailored specifically to each client’s needs. The goal is for the client to enjoy a very comfortable stay in a state-of-the-art environment. Many clients prefer a more upscale setting and Harbor Village meets these demands with the epitome of luxury and style. Accommodations include an attractively furnished suite, 30,000 square foot outdoor lounge area, spa, salon, massage and acupuncture services, Netflix and Internet access, healthy, gourmet dining and personalized care.
The study was led by William R. Corbin, PhD, associate professor and director of clinical training in the Department of Psychology at Arizona State University. “What’s important is that many people believe that if they can hold their alcohol, they are at low risk for alcohol problems. I think our study may help explain why that’s the case, because initially that may be true,” says Corbin. “But what’s important is that people know that being able to hold your alcohol puts you at heightened risk for long-term alcohol problems. The worry is that people who have that belief continue to drink heavily, thinking they are fine, and those really are the ones we’re most worried about.”
“Alcohol abuse can start innocently enough with just a few drinks and then evolve into a serious dependency. At a detox center like Harbor Village, you will be guided on a path to recovery,” said Robert Niznik, Harbor Village CEO.
