Milestone Scientific Release: Clinical Pediatric Study Supports Benefits Of CompuDent(R) In Administering Anesthetic Injections To Children

LIVINGSTON, N.J., Oct. 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Milestone Scientific Inc. , which develops, manufactures and markets computer controlled local anesthetic delivery systems, today announced that a large scale independent clinical study on children demonstrated that the CompuDent(R) system and its disposable Wand(R) handpiece represent a superior alterative for administering local anesthetic injections to pediatric patients (ages 2 to 13 years), when compared with traditional techniques performed with a conventional syringe. The study is a featured article in the October issue of the Journal of the American Dental Association (“JADA”), the prestigious official publication of the American Dental Association.

The independent study evaluated results from the examination of 193 children ages 2 to 13 years who received dental treatment in two separate pediatric dental clinics in Israel. The study evaluated anesthesia effectiveness, patient pain reactions, behavior cooperation and post-treatment dental pain, among other factors. The authors reported a success rate using the CompuDent(R) system of over 95% for routine dental fillings, and a mean effectiveness of 90% (upper primary molar teeth) and 89% (lower primary molar teeth) for all dental treatments performed. The doctors performing the study are members of the faculty of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at the Maurice and Gabriela Goldschleger School of Dental Medicine, Tel-Aviv University, Israel.

“This study provides new evidence for the effectiveness of our technology for the care of younger patients,” stated Mark Hochman, Director of Clinical Affairs at Milestone Scientific Inc. “The study allows us to demonstrate to the global dental profession the importance of integrating our technology into treatment modalities for children, as well as all other dental patients,” added Leonard Osser, Chief Executive Officer of the Company.
