Michigan Biosciences Organization - MichBio Announces Annual Meeting Keynote and Pre-Meeting Workshop

ANN ARBOR, Mich., Feb. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- MichBio, the association for Michigan life science, will host Joseph C. Papa, chairman and chief executive officer of Allegan, MI-based Perrigo Company, as the keynote speaker for its April 22 Annual Meeting in Ann Arbor. Papa’s topic will be “Meeting the World’s Growing Need for Quality, Affordable Healthcare Products.”

Papa joined Perrigo in October 2006 as president and chief executive officer. He was elected to the company’s Board of Directors in November 2006 and appointed chairman of the board in October 2007. He previously served as chairman and chief executive officer of the Pharmaceutical and Technologies Services segment of Cardinal Health. Prior to that position he served as president and chief operating officer of Watson Pharmaceuticals. Additionally, he has held management positions at DuPont Pharmaceuticals, Pharmacia Corporation, G.D.Searle and Novartis.

Perrigo is a leading global healthcare supplier that develops, manufactures and distributes over-the-counter (OTC) and prescription pharmaceuticals, nutritional products, active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) and consumer products. Capital Formation Workshop Will Lead into Annual Meeting

Immediately preceding its Annual Meeting, MichBio will present a workshop titled, “Capital Formation: Lost in Translation.” The workshop will explain the benefits and clarify the processes and lingo involved in raising money from non-dilutive funding like SBIR and STTR programs, debt sources such as angel investors and the Michigan Economic Development Corp., and equity sources such as venture capital and corporate investment. There will be ample time for questions and answers. The program is ideally suited for those involved or interested in starting or growing life sciences businesses.

The workshop will run from 2-5:30 p.m. at the Kensington Court on April 22 prior to the Annual Meeting reception. The cost is $75 for MichBio members and $100 for non-members.
