MLive -- Manufacturers looking to shore up business lost from the automotive industry are increasingly looking to diversify into the exploding medical devices market. It’s a field well suited to Michigan-based suppliers that have mastered strict quality certification systems in the automotive industry, panelists and other experts said during a daylong seminar sponsored by Oakland County on April 23. But entering the field does require capital investment, and spinning off medical device startups, while potentially lucrative, requires costly investments in intellectual property.
