Medtronic, Inc. Laying Off 268 in Twin Cities

Minneapolis / St. Paul Business Journal -- Medtronic Inc. said Wednesday it is eliminating 268 jobs from its Twin Cities operations as part of cuts it announced in February.

Medtronic (NYSE: MDT) spokesman Brian Henry said the medical device maker eliminated a total of 2,100 jobs worldwide, and it began notifying employees of the layoffs this week. He said some employees accepted early retirement packages.

Henry said the layoffs were across all divisions and job functions.

The Fridley-based company said in February that it was cutting its workforce by about 2,000 people by the end of April. Henry said there are no other layoffs planned.

Medtronic employs 41,000 people worldwide, including 8,000 in Minnesota.
