LENEXA, Kan., Oct. 4, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Mediware Information Systems, Inc. (MEDW) announced that the 2012 versions of the company’s core blood management software products, including LifeTrak(R) and HCLL(R) Transfusion, have received updated 510(k) clearance by the US FDA. The software systems are used by more than 500 hospital and blood center facilities in the United States, Canada, Ireland, and Singapore to support blood donor management; blood testing, product manufacturing and distribution; and patient testing and transfusions. Both products were also selected by the US Department of Defense to support effective blood management in Military Health facilities worldwide.
Mediware has been a provider of blood management software and services for 40 years, and is credited with having the first transfusion software system 510(k) cleared for use in hospitals by the US FDA. Since this initial effort, the company has continued to invest in innovations that streamline data and workflow management associated with the entire blood supply chain, from donor recruitment to patient transfusion. The product portfolio was recently expanded through the acquisition of Strategic Healthcare Group to include consulting and benchmarking that improve the utilization of blood products and help lower hospital costs.
The latest versions of Mediware blood management software cleared by the US FDA offer customers robust, enterprise-wide capabilities that enable them to operate more efficiently, while still focusing on safety and quality. This included multiple time zone and expanded multi-facility capabilities that are important in supporting large, enterprise-wide needs where critical blood and patient data is shared across multiple facilities with users seeing and processing data at local time. These capabilities are especially important for the Military Health organizations that will deploy the software worldwide.
“The LifeTrak and HCLL Transfusion software products are the foundation of our integrated blood supply chain strategy and are essential to helping customers safely and efficiently collect, test, prepare and transfuse blood products,” said Thomas Mann, Mediware’s president and chief executive officer. “Over the past few years we have seen the lines between blood center and hospital services blur, where blood centers now provide transfusion services and larger hospitals are collecting more blood. As this continues, and as our customer organizations continue to consolidate and get larger, having systems capable of supporting multiple locations across wider geographies will become an important differentiator.”
LifeTrak(R)
The LifeTrak software, including the Donor, Lab and Distribution modules, provides a comprehensive blood center management platform capable of supporting the collection, testing and manufacturing of blood products. LifeTrak is web-enabled on current technologies and provides a broad range of scalable solutions to support small community and hospital-based blood centers to large enterprise level blood center and laboratory testing operations. Proven and respected in the industry, LifeTrak provides a full spectrum of lab and clinical capabilities, as well as an open application programming interface (API) and modern security features, to provide customers the flexibility to meet current and future blood center business and operational needs.
HCLL Transfusion(TM)
The HCLL Transfusion software manages patient transfusion requirements, including blood specimen tests, patient lab results, blood orders and patient transfusions. With the 2012 version of the HCLL software, customers now have the option of using the software in a traditional client/server mode or leveraging an optional web-based user interface using internet browsers such as IE 7 and above. The new web-based client, which includes a new and streamlined patient dashboard, provides large and distributed organizations additional benefits in usability and support through the thin client deployment as well as enhanced reporting.
Mediware will be demonstrating its full line of blood management software solutions, including LifeTrak and HCLL Transfusion, at the upcoming AABB CTTxpo in Boston, October 6-9. To schedule a demonstration or learn more about the company, visit www.mediware.com/aabb.
