Report’s recommendations aim to make Canada a top-three global hub for health and biosciences and a top-five performer in Commonwealth Fund health system rankings
TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- This week, the Government of Canada released the Health and Biosciences Economic Strategy Table report, which provides recommendations around the following five areas of focus to grow the health and biosciences industry and improve patient outcomes in Canada: Accelerate Innovation Adoption, Design Agile Regulations, Harness Digital Technology, Develop and Attract Talent and Create Anchor Firms. In response to the report, MEDEC, the national association representing Canada’s Medical Technology Companies, issued the following statement from its President and CEO, Brian Lewis.
“We thank the members of the Health and Biosciences Economic Strategy Table for putting forth transformative recommendations that provide an actionable roadmap for Canada to become a top-three global hub for the health and biosciences sector and a top-five performer in the Commonwealth Fund’s health system rankings by 2025.
“The report presents substantial opportunities to grow Canada’s medical technology (medtech) ecosystem, while improving patient outcomes and contributing to the sustainability of our country’s health care system.
“We strongly encourage the government to adopt the recommendations put forth by the Health and Biosciences Economic Strategy Table, as they provide an unparalleled opportunity for national leadership in addressing barriers that are currently impeding the adoption of health innovation and the growth of the medtech industry in Canada.
“We thank the Trudeau government, and particularly Ministers Bains and Petitpas Taylor, for their leadership on this initiative and we look forward to working closely with the government as it deliberates on its next steps.”
