Md, Biotech Jobs Dropped by 1% in Recession

The Maryland bioscience industry shrank by 1.2 percent between 2007 and 2010, a drop led by outsized cuts in the medical device and agricultural sectors, a report released this week showed. The state-by-state study, by research firm Battelle and the Biotechnology Industry Organization, underscores the well-documented struggles of the state’s life sciences sector, which ended 2010 with an employment base of 33,257.
