ST. LOUIS, Nov. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Lumara HealthTM, a St. Louis-based specialty pharmaceutical company dedicated to helping women achieve healthier lives, announced today it is teaming up with Big Belli Productions to promote the first-of-its-kind documentary, 40 Weeks. The film will offer viewers an intimate, unscripted look at the week-by-week journey of pregnancy for various families across the country.
“In the United States every year, one of every nine infants is born too early. Lumara Health is excited to sponsor the 40 Weeks documentary, which will help raise awareness about the importance of a full-term pregnancy and the risk factors associated with delivering preterm, defined as more than 3 weeks prior to the due date,” said Gregg Raybuck, President, Lumara Health. “Supporting educational initiatives, such as 40 Weeks, is a priority for Lumara Health as these types of collaborations help us and our community partners make a meaningful impact in the fight against prematurity.”
A baby undergoes critical growth and development during the final few weeks of pregnancy. For example, around week 35, a baby’s brain is only two thirds the size of a full-term baby’s brain, and his or her hearing is not fully developed until full term. Reaching women who are, or may someday become pregnant, to help them better understand the importance of carrying a baby to full term, or 40 weeks, and the risks associated with preterm birth is critical to addressing the high rates of preterm birth in the United States.
“One of the goals of 40 Weeks is to educate mothers about pregnancy so they can help give their babies a healthy start in life,” said Dominique Debroux, CEO, Big Belli. “Our partnership with Lumara Health will help us get closer to this goal. The company offers great educational resources to expectant mothers that can help them identify if they’re at risk for preterm birth.”
40 Weeks, which premieres December 1, 2014, is directed by Christopher Henze at the helm of an award-winning documentary team. The movie will take viewers through the weekly milestones of pregnancy, aiming to answer pregnancy-related questions through testimonials of real women and medical experts. A few of the topics addressed in the film include prenatal nutrition, fetal development, preterm labor, low birth weight, preparing for delivery, and preparing to bring the baby home.
