US pharma giant Johnson & Johnson is looking to grab a bigger slice of British innovation by setting up bases in five cities across the country, in a major vote of confidence for UK science. The drug maker will set up centres in cities it has identified as life science “hotspots” - Oxford, Cambridge, Edinburgh, Cardiff and Manchester. It plans to scour the research coming out of their universities to spot potential new drugs and establish spin-off companies to develop them for commercial use.
