IDT webinar helps researchers conduct more effective melt curve analysis
CORALVILLE, IA (March 24, 2015) – Integrated DNA Technologies (IDT) will host an instructive webinar, entitled ‘Understanding Melt Curves for Improved SYBR® Green Assay Analysis and Troubleshooting’, on Thursday April 2, 2015. The webinar will be presented at two different times, 9 am and 1 pm Central Standard Time, by Dr Nick Downey, Applications Scientist at IDT. Ideal for both experienced and novice qPCR users, the talk will cover the benefits and limitations of melt curve analysis and suggest troubleshooting techniques. Attendees will learn how to analyze melt curves to extract reliable data from challenging experiments.
The availability of intercalating dyes, such as SYBR® Green, has made qPCR a cost-effective and popular laboratory technique. Melt curve analysis is an integral part of the process, but can cause researchers concern due to the presence of multiple peaks. Additional peaks may result from a number of factors, including suboptimal sample prep, primer dimerization, and asymmetric GC content in amplicons. Webinar attendees will gain an insight into melt curve analysis and the causes of multiple unexpected peaks, and will also be guided through troubleshooting strategies. In addition, attendees will benefit from a demonstration of uMeltSM melt profile prediction software, developed by the Wittwer lab at the University of Utah. uMelt software can be used to predict and validate melt curve data, saving time and effort in analysis.
