Innovations Lead FUJIFILM Medical Systems USA, Inc. to Two New Technology Awards

STAMFORD, Conn., Oct. 9, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- FUJIFILM Medical Systems U.S.A., Inc. announced today that it has been twice recognized in this year’s technology innovation awards sponsored by the global research and consulting firm Frost & Sullivan. The medical imaging and informatics company has been presented with a ‘2012 North American Digital Mammography New Product Innovation Award’ for its Aspire HD digital mammography system, and a ‘2012 Global X-ray Mammography Technology Award’ for its 3D breast imaging technology.

“We are extremely proud to have received such distinguished recognition from Frost & Sullivan with these awards. What it confirms to us is that we have the right technology and product strategies, and the skills to successfully pursue them,” says Fujifilm President & CEO Naohiro Fujitani. “Our goals of driving technological solutions that will provide exceptional diagnostic environments for healthcare professionals and improved safety, comfort and outcomes for patients are foremost on our agenda, and we remain dedicated to seeing them through.”

The honors were bestowed during Frost & Sullivan’s 2012 Growth, Innovation & Leadership Awards banquet on Monday, September 10, 2012 in San Jose, CA. Fujifilm was the only company of the 26 major technology firms recognized at the event to win awards in two separate categories.

“Fujifilm leverages its 70 years of experience in developing image analysis solutions to include cutting-edge image processing technologies in the Aspire HD,” said Frost & Sullivan Industry Analyst Roberto Aranibar about the company’s full field digital mammography system. That, according to Aranibar, is why out of the six new competitors that have entered the market after the recent reclassification by the FDA of full field digital mammography from Class III to Class II, Frost & Sullivan has deemed the Aspire HD system to be the 2012 North American New Product Innovation of the Year in digital mammography. The Fujifilm solution provides exceptional image quality at lower doses.

Technology to improve the early detection of breast cancer is still evolving, and one of the most promising advancements is the 3D mammography solution being developed at Fujifilm. “Radiologists will have much more diagnostic confidence when powerful 3D processes make their way into the healthcare marketplace, and that will improve patient outcomes,” says Fujifilm’s David Hotchkiss, Director of Modality Solutions Marketing. “When approved by the FDA, our 3D digital solution will have the potential to become the standard of care in mammographic imaging, as our recognition by Frost & Sullivan clearly suggests.”

Frost & Sullivan bases its findings and decisions on a series of criteria: for the Digital award, key benchmarks included (among others) leverage of leading-edge technologies, value-added features and benefits, and market penetration potential; for the X-ray award, benchmarks included the uniqueness of the technology, functionality, and relevance to the industry.

Women’s health represents just one component of Fujifilm’s product and technology portfolio, but is also one of the most vital, which is why the company is extremely proud that its Aspire HD and 3D systems have been identified by Frost & Sullivan for being top innovations in the field of mammography.
