Eminent Diabetes Clinician and Educator to Support the Blue Cross Blue Shield Demonstration Project
ANN ARBOR, Mich., June 2, 2016 – Hygieia, a digital insulin enhancement company dedicated to making insulin therapy easier for everyone involved, announced the appointment of Mary M. Austin as clinical services manager. Austin will lead all patient-facing services and manage the team of clinicians for Hygieia’s d-Nav® insulin guidance service, reporting to Dave Conn.
“Mary is one of the most experienced and progressive diabetes educators in the country,” said Dave Conn, Hygieia president. “She has more than four decades of success creating systems and tools to help people with diabetes better manage their disease, and she is exactly the right person to lead the d-Nav services staff.”
Austin is a registered dietitian, nutritionist and certified diabetes educator who has been a leader in her field since 1975. A fellow of the American Association of Diabetes Educators, she served as president of the 14,500-member organization from 2004-2005. Austin is also a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and the American Diabetes Association, among other professional organizations. She has generated more than 100 publications and presentations related to effective diabetes management, and received numerous service and excellence awards in the course of her career. Most recently, Austin served as a clinical educator in Michigan for VMS Bio marketing and as president of The Austin Group specializing in ‘Strategies for Better Diabetes Care.’
“The Blue Cross Blue Shield Michigan relationship is of utmost importance to Hygieia and having someone with Mary’s experience leading our clinical efforts ensures that we will have the execution required to complete a successful demonstration of the d-Nav service to providers and patients locally,” said Eran Bashan, Hygieia CEO and co-founder.
The Hygieia d-Nav insulin guidance service combines smart cloud-based technology and a small team of healthcare professionals that provides valuable support to primary care physicians and helps people with diabetes achieve improved health. d-Nav provides personalized adjustments to enhance and simplify insulin dosing, maximizing its effectiveness for patients and the physicians who prescribe it.
“The Hygieia d-Nav service addresses a gap that has existed for a very long time in diabetes,” said Austin. “I am very excited to share this comprehensive solution with medical professionals and people with type 2 diabetes, to help make insulin therapy easier and more effective for everyone involved.”
