The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for Ambulatory Health Care Accreditation by demonstrating continuous compliance with its nationally recognized standards.

Becomes the first tele-ophthalmology services provider to receive Gold Seal of Approval® quality certification

[17-January-2018]

CHICAGO, Jan. 17, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Hill-Rom‘s (NYSE: HRC) Welch Allyn business today announced that its contracted tele-ophthalmology service provider, RetinaVue, P.C., has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Ambulatory Health Care Accreditation by demonstrating continuous compliance with its nationally recognized standards.

The Gold Seal of Approval® is a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to providing safe and effective patient care. RetinaVue, P.C. is the first tele-ophthalmology provider ever to receive the esteemed quality recognition, typically reserved for hospitals and ambulatory care facilities.

“Together with Welch Allyn, we are dedicated to partnering with front line care providers to implement high-value, patient-centered approaches to vision care,” stated Edward Chaum, MD, PhD, president of RetinaVue, P.C. “Our goal is to preserve the vision of every patient with diabetes throughout their lives. This accreditation is a testament to our continued emphasis on the quality, safety and effectiveness of RetinaVue, P.C.'s tele-ophthalmology service. We couldn’t be more proud.”

The Welch Allyn RetinaVue™ Network is the largest tele-retinal network in the U.S., serving more than 2,000 primary care clinics and partnering with leading commercial health plans and insurers nationwide. Using Welch Allyn retinal cameras, clinicians capture high-quality images quickly and easily in primary care settings. Proprietary software automatically performs a quality assurance check to ensure images are of high quality, which can help improve practice efficiency and customer satisfaction by eliminating callbacks for re-imaging.

Images are then securely transmitted through the Welch Allyn HIPAA-compliant RetinaVue software platform for interpretation by state-licensed, board-certified ophthalmologists who provide a diagnostic report and referral/care plan within one business day.

“We commend RetinaVue, P.C. and its staff for achieving this pinnacle and for demonstrating a commitment to patient safety and quality,” said Michael Kulczycki, MBA, CAE, executive director, Ambulatory Health Care Accreditation Program, The Joint Commission.

To receive the accreditation, RetinaVue, P.C., underwent a rigorous, unannounced onsite survey in 2017. During the review, a team of surveyors with expertise in ambulatory health care evaluated the organization’s compliance with its standards for remote telemedicine programs.
