ADDISON, TX--(Marketwired - January 22, 2014) - HASCO Medical, Inc. (OTCQB: HASC), www.HascoMed.com, a Company that conducts sales of handicap accessible vans, parts, service and rental operations in eighteen locations from Maine to Florida is providing a family a wheelchair accessible van on Emmy Award winning TV show The Doctors on January 22nd, 2014. HASCO subsidiary Ride-Away proudly presents parents Natalie and Timothy Rogers a wheelchair accessible vehicle so their son Jaiden, who has Stiff Skin Syndrome, the ability to go to school for the first time.

The Roger’s Story

Natalie and Timothy Rogers adopted Jaiden when he was 2 years old. He suffered from Fetal Alcohol Syndrome as well as malnourishment. Natalie describes the conditions Jaiden as living in as “dirty, neglected” and the “smell was overwhelming.” A year after Jaiden’s adoption, he started to show signs of a very rare syndrome known as Stiff Skin Syndrome.

Jaiden is only the 41st documented case of Stiff Skin Syndrome worldwide. This connective tissue disorder presents itself in infancy or early childhood, limiting joint and muscle movement and covering the body with thick, stone-like skin that make it difficult to move the limbs. Currently there is no known cure for Stiff Skin Syndrome. Doctors are working hard to actively manage Jaiden’s symptoms and pain through a variety of means, including chemotherapy and physical therapy. Jaiden’s condition has him riding in a wheelchair and it is too painful for him to do the things most children do. He is currently home schooled and has to be manually lifted into a vehicle anytime he needs to travel, which as he gets older is increasingly difficult to do.

The Rogers are active fundraisers for Jaiden and through one of their campaigns they were contacted by Producers from The Doctors and asked to appear on the show to speak about Jaiden’s condition.

Providing Transportation for the Family

Producers from the TV show The Doctors contacted Ride-Away to determine interest in donating a van to the Rogers family. After hearing the story of the Rogers family, Bob Desmarais, President of Ride-Away stated, “Once we heard about Jaiden’s challenge in life we knew that as the leader in our industry we had to make getting from place to place one less challenge that he had to face daily. We were honored to help him and his family with a van.” In partnership with BraunAbility, America’s leading manufacturer of wheelchair accessible vehicles, Ride-Away located a suitable van for the family that meets their needs.

National TV and a Surprise

Bob was on hand to personally present the vehicle to the Rogers family, who couldn’t have been more surprised. “We knew we would be on the show but we had no idea about the van,” Natalie Rogers explained. “It was a very good surprise because we needed the help. It just totally changed our lives.” According to Natalie, the surprise meant even more to Jaiden, “He couldn’t believe it. He didn’t have any words to say, all Jaiden could say was ‘We got a van!’ He just loves it.”

This year he will get to try his first semester at a traditional school. The family will now be able to take trips to the store, visit friends, and take a family trip at the end of this summer.

About The Braun Corporation

The Braun Corporation is the world’s largest manufacturer of wheelchair accessible vans, ramps, and wheelchair lifts and enables people with physical disabilities to regain mobility. The Indiana-based company was founded by Ralph Braun, who was diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy at a young age and unable to walk by age 15. Ralph was motivated by his disability to invent the world’s first electric scooter (the Tri-Wheeler) and wheelchair lift (the Lift-A-Way) in his parents’ garage. Word spread and demand for the product increased, resulting in the birth of Save-A-Step Manufacturing, which ultimately became The Braun Corporation.
