The 2-day event took place at the GEA Pharma Systems Technology Centre in Bubendorf. It included a series of presentations by speakers from industry and academics and was complement by practical demonstrations in the test lab.
Some highlights were the presentation of Merck’s simplified scale-up approach by the application of PAT; the in depth discussion of the science behind coating processes by Prof Richard Turton; and the presentation of a fully continuous systems for tablet production.
The practical demonstrations, especially the scale-up of a challenging sustained release formulation, were highly appreciated by the participants.
“We were delighted to work with Evonik Industries on this project and very pleased that so many engineers and scientists joined us,” said Harald Stahl, Senior Pharmaceutical Technologist for GEA Pharma Systems. “I learned a lot myself and I’m sure the other participants did too.”
GEA Pharma Systems are planning more symposia in the near future and already have a similar event arranged with Evonik Industries in two years time.
