CHICAGO, March 22, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago (FHLBank Chicago) was pleased to announce a third recipient of its 2018 Community First Awards yesterday at its member meeting in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The awards recognize outstanding achievements of the FHLBank Chicago’s member institutions and their local partners as they work together to strengthen their communities through affordable housing and economic development initiatives. At its Green Bay, Wisconsin meeting, the FHLBank Chicago presented an award in the project or program category. Award winners identify a nonprofit organization to receive up to $10,000.
Project or Program Award
The Gerald L. Ignace Indian Health Center, Inc., a nonprofit community clinic, is the recipient of a $10,000 project or program award. While the clinic’s mission is to improve the health, peace, and well-being of urban Native Americans in the greater Milwaukee area, it is available to all community members seeking the wide range of culturally responsive physical, social, and behavioral health services it offers. With financing from Impact Seven (supported by proceeds from the FHLBank Chicago’s Community First® Fund), the center was recently expanded to include a full-service dental clinic and pharmacy with the capacity to treat more than 2,000 low-income and underserved patients each year.
“Improving the quality of life for vulnerable populations like those cared for at the Gerald L. Ignace Indian Health Center is one way we can build stronger, more equitable communities,” said Suzi Thackston, FHLBank Chicago Community Investment Officer. “We’re proud that FHLBank Chicago members like Impact Seven help make this work possible.”
“With the clinic having no boundaries to comprehensive health care, this project epitomizes the name of the award, ‘Community First,’” said Brett Gerber, Impact Seven President and CEO. “Impact Seven is honored to be included in such a project.”
The FHLBank Chicago named two Community First Award recipients earlier this week at its member meeting in Oak Brook, Illinois, and will announce the final 2018 award today at its member meeting in Madison, Wisconsin.
