Less than six months after medical device maker Abiomed doubled the size of its Danvers headquarters with a new lease, the company has decided to buy all 160,000 square feet outright for $16.5 million.
Abiomed (Nasdaq: ABMD) disclosed in a federal filing late yesterday that it’s entered into a purchase and sale agreement with Massachusetts-based Thibeault Nominee Trust to buy the 12-acre property at 18-22 Cherry Hill Drive. The company, which had $180 million in cash and short-term securities as of Sept. 30, put $100,000 into escrow and plans to close the transaction sometime in January.
