“Mark is a fantastic, proven team leader and a domain expert in the field of lens manufacturing, which makes him the perfect fit for this role,” said Andrew Schmeder, CEO and Co-founder of EnChroma. “In spite of COVID-19-related disruptions, demand for EnChroma’s products is surging, creating unique operational challenges, which Mark is exceptionally well-qualified to help us surmount. I look forward to working with him to build the highly scalable production infrastructure needed to reach our goals together.”

The mission of EnChroma is to create breakthrough optical products that solve some of the world’s most challenging problems in vision care, including color blindness and the rapidly growing population of people suffering from age-related eye conditions. The combined audience that can benefit from EnChroma’s solutions numbers more than one billion people worldwide.

“In my many years of experience, I have never seen a company as forward-moving in the lens-based vision care space as EnChroma, nor worked with a team so collectively motivated to improve vision for others,” said Mattison-Shupnick. “It is incredibly exciting to be a part of defining the future standard of care for vision impairments that cannot be treated with ordinary spectacle lenses.”

A Master Optician, Mattison-Shupnick brings five decades in the eyecare industry to the role of COO, including serving with the ANSI Z80.3 working group on spectral transmittance measurements. Previously, as Vice President of Business Development for EnChroma, he successfully expanded the company’s retail network from a handful of partners in the United States to nearly 300 spanning Canada, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and Asia. Mattison-Shupnick also spent 13 years as a Director of Education and Training with Jobson Medical Information.

As COO, Mattison-Shupnick will lead functions related to corporate operations, supply chain, technology, research and human resources. “In a time of unprecedented flux caused by COVID-19 and societal change, I look forward to working closely with all of our employees to advance EnChroma’s ideals and mission,” added Mattison-Shupnick. “I will also help to clear obstacles and allocate resources so EnChroma can further develop its understanding of color, technology and vision science to continue to innovate and make discoveries that enhance the lives of those with vision challenges.”
