Edwards Lifesciences Fund Awards More Than $1 Million In Charitable Grants

IRVINE, Calif., Nov. 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Edwards Lifesciences Corporation , a world leader in advanced cardiovascular technologies, announced today the recipients of grants from The Edwards Lifesciences Fund, a philanthropic, donor-advised fund the company established last year. Grants were awarded to organizations supporting advancements in knowledge and improvements in quality of life, focusing primarily upon cardiovascular disease and the communities where Edwards’ employees live and work. Forty charitable organizations received grants, totaling nearly $1.1 million, as part of The Fund’s second annual grant cycle.

Mussallem, Edwards’ chairman and CEO. “Grants provided by The Edwards Lifesciences Fund will be reaching an even larger population and will help assist underserved patients fighting cardiovascular disease, as well as strengthen communities in Orange County and around the world.”

Strategic grants of $100,000 each were awarded to Surgeons of Hope Foundation, Inc. to fund humanitarian medical missions for indigent children in Mozambique and Afghanistan, and to The Larry King Cardiac Foundation to support the “Save a Heart a Day” program.

Additional strategic grants were given to Children’s HeartLink, The Grandview Foundation; The Mended Hearts, Inc.; Greenville Hospital Foundation; Alliance for Aging Research; Conemaugh Health Foundation; Gift of Life International; Hoag Hospital Foundation; La Amistad de Jose Family Health Center, a licensed community clinic of St. Joseph Hospital; The National Kidney Foundation; The HeartGift Foundation; The Saddleback Memorial Foundation; and International Children’s Heart Foundation. In all, strategic grants totaled $812,000.

The Edwards Lifesciences Fund also awarded 25 community grants totaling $210,500. Organizations receiving community grants are the California Society for Biomedical Research; A Heart for Sports; Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC); Discovery Science Center; Fundacion Dr. Raul Garcia Rinaldi; Irvine Adult Day Health Services, Inc.; Little Company of Mary Community Health Foundation; Camp Invention; Orange County Child Abuse Prevention Center; Orange County Ronald McDonald House; Working Wardrobes for a New Start; American Heart Association: Puerto Rico; American Red Cross, Southern California Region; California Heart Connection; Camp del Corazon; Deborah Hospital Foundation, Puerto Rico Chapter; Goodwill Industries of Orange County; Main Line Health Heart Center; Make-A-Wish Foundation of Orange County; Project Tomorrow; YMCA of Orange County, Community Services Branch; Orangewood Children’s Foundation; American Heart Association, Orange County; Golden West College Foundation; and the Boy Scouts of America, Orange County Council.
